Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) Paint Restoration How-To

miata paint restoration

The paint on my black 1994 NA Mazda Miata looked good from 20 feet, but up close you could see the badly oxidized paint. it was as if someone never washed it, and let it sit under a tree for the last 20 years.

The paint is a single stage paint, meaning no clear coat, just a single layer of paint that naturally is shiny. To start I thoroughly washed the sections with dish soap (to remove as much grime as possible), used clay bar, used a rubbing compound, then sealed it all up with a nice coat of wax. The polishing compound would get stuck in the dry and oxidized paint, and made it difficult and scary at the same time. we pressed through, and ended up with some great results! I will be sure to take some nice photos and post them up.
